Description

A unique style from Northwest Italy, Moscato d’Asti is one of our favourite wines for food-matching and, given it’s 5.5% abv, for a treat on Christmas morning! It’s sweet, sparkling, delicious and fun with lots of grapey flavours and a fine, elegant texture and aroma too.

TASTING NOTE: This delightful Sparkling from NW Italy is a brilliant, light yellow/green colour in the glass. It opens with a fresh, aromatic nose filled with grapey notes, some peach and pear, with soft notes of elderflower. The palate has a lovely core of acidity that brings plenty of freshness to this wine, along with the sparkle. There are more grapey flavours, with a hint of lychee too. The body of the wine is medium with gentle bubbles, a sweet but not cloying finish and refreshingly low alcohol of 5.5%. It’s an elegant, fresh wine that is great anytime!

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This lighter style of sparkling wine makes a great substitute for sweeter desserts as well as matching with fruit-based tarts or plainer sponge cakes, as it has some sweetness. The low alcohol also makes a great tea-time treat as well, or put it with your panettone! For a savoury match, we would also suggest pairing this wine along with fresh sashimi, sushi or paired with a traditional Pad Thai and that little bit of spice. This wine is best enjoyed at temperature of 6-8 degrees. It’s ready to drink now but will continue to drink well till end 2026.

ABOUT: Established in 1972 by Aldo Vajra, after discovering his love of the vineyard and winemaking while working summers on his grandparents’ vineyard in the Barolo region (the estate is named after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico, hence G.D Vajra on the label). After completing his studies, Aldo became a pioneer of organic farming in the Piedmont region, based in Vergne in Barolo. Today Aldo and family produce magnificent wines from the 60 hectares of vineyards and also purchase fruit from the surrounding area.
