Description
Carmes de Rieussec is made by Chateau Rieussec, the famous First Growth Grand Cru of Sauternes. Made from a blend of the white grapes – Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc which have been allowed to develop Botrytis (also known as Noble Rot), it’s a delicious sweet style of Bordeaux, perfect for matching with dessert or blue cheeses, with luscious citrus aromas and flavours, and a tiny hint of honey too. Carmes de Rieussec’s name is a reference to the Carmelite monks in Langon, who owned the Rieussec estate in the 18th century. Now owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild who also own Chateau Lafite, they know a thing or two about great wine from the Bordeaux area, both red, white and sweet! 14.5% ABV.
Specific food matches are a fresh fruit tarte, and it goes marvellously with apple or rhubarb crumbles. For a savoury choice, duck pate or blue cheese such as Stilton or Roquefort. Yum!
