Description
A thirst-quenching, dry, elegant Champagne from the Cote des Blancs, and a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier grapes. Very food-friendly, a great partner for seafood and perfect for Champagne-lovers who want to branch out from the big names.
TASTING NOTE: A bright yellow gold colour with fine, persistent bubbles in the glass. Fresh aromas of white flowers, citrus, and a touch of toasted almond. It’s lively, crisp, dry and refreshing on the palate, with a silky texture and notes of mango and peach leading to a smooth, elegant finish. 12% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: The family suggest pairing their wine with a puff pastry/vol-au-vent filled with mimolette and sesame, or Milanese-style cutlets. It’s very fresh and dry, a great aperitif to wake up the taste buds and make the mouth water prior to a good meal. It’s not a rich, sweet nor overly toasty style, but is more elegant and fine, so it’s very good for those who like a dry, cleansing style of Champagne. It’s delicious now (particularly with seafood!!) but would keep for another 2 years, served at 9-11 degrees.
ABOUT: Frerejean Freres is a family-run Champagne house founded by brothers Guillaume and Rodolphe Frerejean Taittinger. They were given the Cote des Blancs vineyards in Champagne after the Champagne house Taittinger was sold in 2005. The house was later repurchased by the Taittinger family, although Guillaume and Rodolphe wisely kept their vineyards and now make estate-grown wines after the ‘grower-Champagne’ mould, rather than purchasing grapes from other estates. Drawing from their mother’s Taittinger winemaking legacy and their father’s roots in the Burgundy region, they create precise, fine-textured, elegant Champagnes that are exceptionally food-friendly.
