Chateau Bonalgue Pomerol 2017 HALF (37.5cl)

Red, Bordeaux, France

In stock

This is an impressive red from Pomerol on the right bank of Bordeaux’s Gironde estuary. Typical of wines made in Pomerol, Merlot is the key grape in the blend (90%) and is supported by Cabernet Franc (10%). Attractive Merlot aromas of dark berry fruits and liquorice are followed by blackberries, tobacco and eucalyptus, and some spice from 18 month’s ageing in new and one year old French oak barrels respectively.

The Chateau was originally built by Captain Rabion, a veteran of Napoleon’s Grand Army, and is now managed by the third generation of the Bourotte family, Jean-Baptiste Bourotte. It’s a relatively small estate of 9.5 hectares, producing around 2,500 cases annually, with Merlot being the main grape variety, as is usually the case with Pomerol, given this grape is so well suited to Pomerol’s limestone and clay soils. We would recommend decanting the wine for an hour before drinking to help soften the tannins and reveal the beautifully crafted characteristics within. A superb match for any roast, this also lends itself very admirably to help accompany a cheese board! Drink now – 2030. 13.5% ABV.
