Chateau Les Ormes de Pez Saint-Estephe 2015 HALF (37.5cl)

Red, Bordeaux, France

In stock

Chateau Les Ormes de Pez is based in the Saint-Estephe village of the Medoc, on the left-bank part of the Bordeaux wine region. It’s  owned by the Cazes family who also own Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, down the road. The name literally means ‘elm trees of peace’ referring both to the ancient elm trees that used to grow here, and the local dialect for ‘peace’, ie pez. Ormes de Pez was bought by the Cazes family in 1940.

The 2015 is a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Verdot. A similar mix of grapes they use every year however, with more Merlot in 2015 than before, giving a rich core of berry fruit alongside the powerful structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, plus a hint of spice and cedar from ageing in barrel for 16 months (45% of the barrels were new, providing a spicy and toast hint to the wine). 13.5%ABV

It’s undeniably a great wine from a very good vintage, but without the price tag of the greats!
