Chateau Mont-Redon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2017 HALF (37.5cl)

Red, Rhone, France

In stock

We’ve fallen in love with Mont-Redon’s classic Chateauneuf-du-Pape. A full-bodied wine with a touch of age to tame the ripe fruit and firm structure. The result is a smooth, well-balanced, delicious red for the autumn and winter months. It looks as good as it tastes, is perfect to match a stew or protein dish, and has the depth and concentration of flavour to keep too, if you can wait! 14.5% ABV.

Who makes this and where is it made?

This is a very well-respected estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, with a fascinating history. As with many vineyards in this area of the Rhone, vines were originally planted by the Romans, but later the estate's vineyards became part of the Pope's own lands when the Papal see was moved from Rome to Avignon in the 14th Century. These days, its a family-run estate, making truly lovely wines. that drink well in youth and age too.

Tasting notes

It's concentration of flavour and firm age-worthy structure distinguishes it from a good Cotes du Rhone. At 14.5% alcohol it's not a reserved wine but great to sip over a long evening.

Technical Details

This wine is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault. Hand harvested bunces are destemmed and vinified seperately in temperature controlled vats with regular punch down using the “pigeage” technique. Post fermentation, 50% of the wine is aged in small oak barrels for 12 months with the rest remains in cask. The wines are then blended and matured for an additional 4 months before bottling.
