Description

This Crianza is made from a blend of Tempranillo (85%), Garnacha (10%) and a little Mazuelo (aka Carignan) in the heartland of the Rioja region in Spain. Dominated by red and dark fruits including strawberries, blackcurrant and plum supported with the classic vanilla spice imparted from gentle oak aging. With well-balanced acidity and tannins this is a staple in our wine racks, offering superb value while lending itself admirably to foods such as cheeses, pizza or red meats – lamb especially!

CVNE [Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España], often pronounced as Cune (‘Coonay’) – due to a historical typographical error when the V was misplaced with a U, is one of the oldest and most trusted estates in Rioja. It was established in Haro, Rioja nearly 150 years ago by the Real de Asúa brothers and remains owned by the 5th generation of the same family to this day. The family now control over 400 hectares of vines in the Rioja Alta area as well as two other bodegas in Catalonia. One of Cune’s claims to fame is that parts of the winery were designed by Alexandre Eiffel – no less! 13.5% ABV.
