Escarpment vineyard is situated 5km East of Martinborough village on New Zealand’s South Island. The region of Martinborough is blessed with a unique terroir made up of alluvial loam soils, over alluvial gravels that form the Martinborough Terrace. This combined with the perfect mild grape growing climate produce wines with powerful fruit and amazing quality, especially in the Pinot Noir department. Larry McKenna has been in charge of winemaking at Escarpment since 1999 and has often been called the ‘Prince of Pinot’!
This wine is inspired by the Pinot Noirs of Burgundy and is perfumed and elegant with layers of dark cherry and herbs. Aged entirely in French oak, this knockout Pinot has a rounded, complex, fruit filled palate and the structured tannins will help its longevity. All with sustainable environmental credentials too, what is not to like? This would be perfect with lamb, venison or crispy pulled pork.
