Description
The area of Volnay, south of the town of Beaune, in Burgundy was said to be a favourite with the ladies from the court of the Duke of Burgundy due to the purity of the air but we think it could well also have been due to the quality of the wine from the area! Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it is aged for 14-18 months in oak to help craft the elegant and rounded wine which if enjoyed young, is bright and vibrant with notes of violet and blackcurrants, followed by a pleasant and long lasting finish. Allowed to develop further, it will take on a combination of candied fruits and more savoury notes including mushroom and a little vanilla spice.
Joseph Drouhin, a Chablis native, arrived in Beaune at the heart of Burgundy in 1880 and founded the winery and negotiant business which is now in the hands of his four great grandchildren – Philippe, Veronique, Laurent and Frederic. The family own vineyards throughout Burgundy including the prestigious Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot appellations. This is an extremely food friendly wine and will pair with many Burgundian classics including Snails, Beef Bourguignon or a local cheese such as Epoisses. 13.5% ABV.
