These world class wines are made by the Brajkovich family who have been making wines in their estate in Kumeu River for over seventy years. This wine and other Chardonnays from this top-notch estate have beaten top Burgundy Chardonnays in recent blind tastings line-ups. Michael Brajkovich MW and family make these iconic wines in an area just to the west of Auckland, New Zealand. They make single vineyard wines from each of their vineyards and also an estate blend from their six different sites. Maté’s Vineyard is regarded as their best site and produces wines of great concentration, length and elegance, a style of wine often described as “Burgundian”. Burgundy comparisons do not tell the full story, Kumeu River’s wines and in particular Maté’s Vineyard show an opulence of fruit yet restrained winemaking that is unique to Kumeu River’s wines. If you like fresh, dry whites then this is perfect you. From the brilliant 2019 vintage this wine has been 100% barrel fermented and has layers of ripe peach, lemon and apple fruit with incredible, refreshing acidity.
