Bodegas Muga was founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Cano in the town of Haro, La Rioja. Renowned for their ability to maintain traditional winemaking techniques alongside cutting edge technology in order to ensure quality, this is without a doubt one of the premium producers in the region. Made from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, the wine is aged for 22 months in both French and American oak barrels – each providing different characteristics. This is followed by 9 months ageing in bottle before release. With an attractive red ruby hue, the nose is intense and complex with notes of raspberry and blackberry alongside sweet spices such as vanilla and the herbal character of liquorice. Pleasant acidity and soft tannins lead to a long and fruit driven finish which makes for a great drink in its own right but also for an extremely food friendly companion – especially alongside a good steak, charcuterie and a variety of Casseroles. 14% ABV.
