The Pio Cesare estate was founded in 1881 and it is now run by the 5th generation; Pio Cesare’s great-grandson Pio Boffa – one of Italy’s top winemakers. Pio Cesare is almost like a benchmark for Piemonte wines as they are so highly regarded in the region. Only the highest standards are allowed, little intervention occurs in the vineyard and only the very best most mature and healthy grapes make the final cut. The family own around 70 hectares of land in some of the best plots in Piemonte and are one of the few producers to run a winery in the heart of the village of Alba. Their cellars are steeped in history dating back to 1700’s and are surrounded by Roman walls that originate from 50BC.
