Louis Roederer is a Champagne house who have been making great Champagne since 1776 and are based in Reims. The business is still family owned; Frederic Rouzaud currently manages it with Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon making the wines. This is a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay; the three permitted grape varieties in Champagne. The use of Pinot Noir and Meunier, both red grapes, give lovely red berry fruit and hints of cherry pie, with a hint of brioche and almond on the finish from long ageing in cellars.
Champagne is a cool-climate region lying north east of Paris and is the largest producer of fine sparkling wines in the world, making 300 million bottles a year, of which a tenth is exported to the UK. Louis Roederer is a medium to large sized producer, farming biodynamically where possible. The wine comes attractively presented and makes for a superb gift and a delicious, fresh, rounded sparkling wine at any time at all. Never disappoints and pairs excellently with Fish and Chips! 12% ABV.
