This Shiraz  is a medium-bodied red wine, well balanced with intense flavours that keep giving. It is full of dark fruit notes, and is fermented with some whole bunches of grapes, allowing the stems to add some grip to the tannins. It is aged in French Oak for fourteen months, adding spice and hints of spice and dark chocolate.

Cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw established Shaw + Smith in 1989, making wines only in the Adelaide Hills, using grapes that enjoy the cooler climate like Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Chardonnay as well as some well-sited Shiraz. They are passionate about vine and soil health, producing low yields to ensure quality. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and have adopted sustainable practices such as using sheep to control weeds, and are in the middle of the mandatory three year transition period to gain organic certification. These Shiraz grapes are grown in Balhannah in the Adelaide HIlls, and also Echunga and Macclesfield, to the South. For a time, the climate in the Hills was considered too cool to ripen Shiraz grapes, until the first Shaw + Smith Shiraz was made in 2002, and they began to produce intense and elegant wines, full of flavour. This will pair well with a slow cooked lamb shoulder, and rich, hearty vegetable dishes. An expressive red full of delicious flavours that make it a crowd-pleasing red! Open and enjoy now, or it can keep up to 15 years. 14%ABV
