Valdespino Deliciosa Manzanilla HALF (37.5cl)

Dry Sherry, Jerez, Spain

In stock

A particularity of Manzanilla is that it is aged close to the Jerez coastline in Spain, in a town called Sanlucar de Barrameda. This gives the wines an especially lively, fresh feel, and often a salty note too alongside lemon and bread yeast. Light to medium bodied, dry and with a flavourful, nutty finish. The wine is made from 100% Palomino Fino grapes and is visited as a normal still white wine to an ABV of between 10.5% and 12% ABV. It is then fortified to 15% ABV and the ‘flor’ yeast layer is encouraged to develop to protect the wine from oxygen. The wine matures under the ‘flor’, for 5 years.

The Estevez family make this sherry in their 600 year old bodega located in Jerez. The Manzanilla is sent to Sanlucar de Barrameda for ageing before being bottled and exported from Jerez. It makes a great visit if you are ever in the region. Is this the perfect aperitif wine? The salty, tangy flavour is the best match we’ve found for almonds (try the large especially nutty Marcona almonds if you can track them down) and olives to kick off a good meal. 15% ABV.
