Description
This white Burgundy is one of the most coveted white wines in the region, and a flagship wine for Joseph Drouhin. It’s often compared to the Grand Crus. Named after the Beehives (Mouches literally translates as flies) which used to sit on the sun-drenched hills of the vineyards in the heart of Burgundy, Clos des Mouches has cemented its reputation as one of three flagship Premier Cru sites in the Cote de Beaune.
TASTING NOTE: Golden yellow colour. On the nose: Seductive with fragrant aroma of jasmine, peach and rose petals, plus a hint of almond. On the palate: It’s medium-bodied and fresh with hints of citrus, light honey and almond. It is round, and flavoursome with the trademark freshness of great Burgundy with a long, juicy finish. 13.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is superbly crafted and will match with a simple array of seafood dishes or with rich buttery pasta. Try with a baked clam dish or a creamy rich seafood pasta. This is certainly a wine to savour with close friends or family, we would!
ABOUT: Joseph Drouhin, a Chablis native, arrived in Beaune, the heart of Burgundy in 1880 and founded the winery and negotiant business which is now in the hands of his four great-grandchildren – Philippe, Veronique, Laurent and Frederic who each play a different role in helping to grow the family wine companies in Burgundy and USA. With almost 200 acres of vines in Burgundy, they organically farm their own vineyards and purchase grapes from leading growers in the Burgundy region.
