An Introduction to Italian Wines
When you think of wine, one of the first places you should think of in the modern day is Italy. The Italians are the leaders in wine producing, both for volume and exports, in the world. They have been involved in the viticulture scene for over 4,000 years, solidifying their position at the top of the food chain – or more, ‘wine chain’ – over this extended period of time. Italy has more than 20 different regions that focus on making Italian wine, all with different cultures and talents in the industry.
Some of the most well-known locations for Italian white wine, Italian red wine, and Italian sparkling wine, include Tuscany and Piedmont to name a few. One of the most infamous, Sicily, is not only the largest Mediterranean Sea-based island, but is also home to the most dynamic wine industry in Europe – if not the world! It is known as one of the bulk centres for wine production, a title which has been carried through generations of Sicilian winemakers.
We have a wide range for Italian wine lovers and newcomers alike, with different potencies, undertones, and more. There is something for everyone when shopping for wine By Country.
Italian Wine Tyles
Now that we have introduced you to the market and history of Italian red wine, white wine, and sparkling wine, we can look closer at the actual products we offer on our site. There is plenty to choose from regarding Italian wines, as we offer 40 different products provided to use from our Italian wine producer friends. These products on the page are chosen manually and only the top names and options have been selected for your viewing and potential purchase. These are divided into three sections, and although not divided on the page itself, the names suggest which bracket they fit under. The brackets in question are Italian sparkling wine, Italian white wine, and Italian red wine.
Italian Red Wine
While many Italian red wine options are available on this page, the most popular of these is the 2017 Massolino Barolo from Piemonte. This bottle is sold for £26.95 per half bottle on The Little Fine Wine Company site. Other options for Italian reds include the 2018 Fontodi Chianti Classico from Tuscany at £16.50 per half bottle, the 2020 Ca Rugate Valpolicella Rio Albo from Veneto, and another Tuscany-crafted red from 2018, the Capezzana Barco Reale, sold for £10.95 per half.
Italian White Wine
Italian white wines are far from sparse in this collection, with over 15 options to choose from on the site. The most popular of these, and our of our all-time best sellers, is the 2019 Feudi di San Gregorio Greco di Tufo from Campania which is sold for £10.95 in a half bottle. For £9.95 per half bottle, you could support our friends in Veneto by trying out their 2021 Pieropan Soave Classico half bottles, or look at the 2020 Piemonte-imported Vietti Cascinetta Moscato d’Asti for £11.50 per half bottle.
Italian Sparkling Wine
Sparkling wines, or more specifically, Italian sparkling wines, are great for any celebratory occasion. Ca’del Bosco Cuvee Prestige Franciacorta and Prosecco (in Veneto), are two of the most infamous Italian sparkling wine regions, and we offer options from these two and more! For £21.95 per half bottle, you can try out Franciacorta’s own Ca’del Bosco Cuvee Prestige sparkling wine, or you could give the Adami Bosco di Gica Prosecco Superiore half bottle a try for just £11.95.
