Description
Moresco is the name of the original family who farmed one of Gaja’s unique vineyards in Barbaresco, in the Langhe part of Piedmont. Today, the Sito Moresco wine is a blend of grapes from Moresco and from Treiso (also in Barbaresco) and parts of Serralunga d’Alba in Barolo. Partly because of the blend across appellations, and partly because it’s also a blend of several grapes, this is not a DOCG wine but instead qualifies for the larger Langhe DOC category. It’s a wine that Gaja produces to combine the structure and longevity of Nebbiolo, with the cherry fruit of Barbera and juicy mid-palate of Merlot, a Franco-Italian blend, therefore. It’s extremely perfumed, with floral and violet notes, and a layered, dark-berry fruit palate and lingering finish. Hints of vanilla and spice come to the fore along with mixed herbs; this is a wine that is ready to drink now while you wait for the Barbaresco to develop, and a delicious introduction to the Gaja range. 13.5% ABV
