Description
This is a fairly full-bodied Rioja Reserva, from Izadi, with excellent balance and enough structure to match a hearty meal with ease, or classic Sunday Roast. Made by the Anton family, Michelin-starred restauranteurs who know a thing or two about food pairing!
TASTING NOTE: An attractive, bright red colour in the glass. On the nose: Filled with vanilla and spice aromas from ageing in both American and French oak barrels, along with ripe red berry fruits. On the palate: Full-bodied with plenty of tannin, and medium acidity. It’s a well-balanced, deliciously flavoursome, mellow, smooth Rioja, which has a long, complex, rounded finish. 14% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine is a great match with red meats or grilled vegetable dishes. Try alongside a perfectly grilled dry-aged steak, or grilled Portobello mushrooms with roast potatoes, and greens. This wine is at its best once decanted for an hour before serving. It’s ready to drink now but you can keep it until 2028-2029.
ABOUT: Izadi was founded relatively recently in 1987 by Gonzalo Anton as well as friends and business partners from the area. The Anton family were originally Michelin-starred restauranteurs, before taking on the challenge of making wine (they own Zaldiaran, a one-star Michelin restaurant in Vitoria, nearby). As of 2000, Lalo Anton began managing the winery in Rioja, plus their estates in Ribera del Duero, Toro, and Rueda. Given the family’s background, the emphasis is on delicious wines which are food-friendly. The winemaker is Roberto Vicente
