Description
Typically refreshing white wine from Austria’s speciality, the Gruner Veltliner grape grown in the Kamptal region. With lovely orchard and stone fruits, and a crisp dry finish, it’s a very easy-drinking wine and makes a great aperitif or asparagus match!
TASTING NOTE: Attractive yellow colour and flecks of green. On the nose: Stone fruit aromas such as nectarine and white peach, followed by apple and pear with delicate floral notes, and white pepper. On the palate: light to medium-bodied filled with citrus flavours of grapefruit and lemon curd with crisp apples and refreshing acidity. It’s a dry wine but not quite bone dry, with a rounded, fruity finish, and it’s very easy to drink!
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Classic pairings from Austria would be Weiner Schnitzel, we would also suggest trying this wine with a fruity and spicy Thai vegetable curry. Gruner Veltliner is best served chilled 7-10C. It’s great now but will easily keep till the end of 2025.
ABOUT: With a family wine history dating back to 1770, the Weixelbaum family have been producing wines in one of the oldest wine-producing areas of Austria in the town of Straß (Strass). The third generation of the family now crafts the wines from Weixelbaum, Heinz Weixelbaum along with his wife Gabi. Heinz took over for his father Heinrich Weixelbaum in 1998. The Weixelbaum estate covers a total of 22ha with a focus on creating wines that reflect the region and styles the family enjoy drinking themselves (and us too!)
