Description
A fruity, sunshine-filled chardonnay from the coastal area of Monterey in California. bursting with stone fruits and tropical notes, it is juicy, smooth and full of character!
TASTING NOTE: In the glass, this California Chardonnay has a delicate straw colour. On the nose: there are aromas of ripe fruits such as pineapple, peaches and nectarines, and subtle vanilla and woodsmoke from barrel-ageing. On the palate: it is quite full-bodied, with refreshing acidity and a succulent, juicy feel. It’s generous in alcohol at 14% but well-balanced with its intense fruit and full body. Technically it’s a dry wine but the generous alcohol, lovely natural fruitiness and slight viscosity give an almost sweet sensation compared to, say, an austere French Chardonnay, for example.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This well-rounded Chardonnay is a great match (as suggested by J. Lohr) as an aperitif wine alongside with Gouda or aged goat cheese, or to accompany a vegetable risotto, bacon-wrapped scallops, or a juicy roasted pork chop with apples. Other suggestions could be fresh, steamed mussels in a creamy white wine butter sauce with garlic and herbs and a side of frites, creamy pastas or with salmon pate and crusty grilled baguette. We suggest serving this wine chilled from the fridge between 8-10 degrees C. Enjoy now or cellar until end 2026.
ABOUT: Founded in 1972 by Jerry Lohr, a pioneer of California’s Central Coast region. Nowadays, he is known for Paso Robles wine but he first planted 280 acres of vines in Monterey’s Arroyo Seco district of California. He valued Monterey’s cool temperatures from coastal winds and rocky soils to create complex white wines, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as here. In the 1980’s he saw the potential of the Paso Robles region for Bordeaux grape varieties and began planting there too, expanding the entire estate to 1600 hectares (4000 acres) today.
