Description
This juicy Italian red from the Alba area of Italy’s Piedmont region has attractive cherry, blackberry and floral aromas. It is very refreshing, partly due to the fruity nature of the Dolcetto grape, and also as it is aged in stainless steel barrels as opposed to oak. The name Dolcetto means ‘little sweet one’, which is a little deceptive as it’s a dry wine, but likely refers to the particularly plump, fruity nature of Dolcetto grapes and also of the resulting wines, which are delicious!
TASTING NOTE: An intense ruby red colour with purple highlights. On the nose: it reveals pronounced dark fruit aromas, such as blackberry and sour cherry. There is also a floral note of roses or violets, which gives a lovely perfumed quality to the wine. On the palate: the cherry fruit character is present on the palate too, creating a sense of freshness and balance with the alcohol of 13% and gentle acidity. It’s dry and light to medium in body, offering a refreshing change to some heavier reds you can find in Italy. It might not be as complicated as Barolo, from down the road, but it is simple, fruity and fresh. Yum! 13% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine is a versatile everyday companion, pairing beautifully with roasted poultry and classic first courses such as bruschetta, arancini, or grilled vegetable antipasti. For a vegetarian or vegan option, tofu or earthy mushrooms make excellent matches, complementing the wine’s balance and character. The optimal serving temperature is slightly chilled, around 15 to 16 °C, to allow its full expression to shine. Enjoy now, or cellar another 3 years.
