Description

This Red Claw Shiraz from the Heathcote area within Victoria, Australia is a gem, with six years of age and an appealing mix of youthful and mature aromas, resulting in delicious complexity. It’s a great food match too, not tooooo heavy nor high in alcohol, but able to match with meats and hearty vegetable dishes.

TASTING NOTE: This Shiraz has lovely balance with attractive, complex aromas and flavours from a few years ageing at cellars, prior to release. On the nose: there are dark berry fruits, lavender and mixed herbs, plus a gamier note of Shiraz as it begins to mature, and some fine spice from barrel ageing. On the palate: it is silky in texture with ripe tannins, medium body and a long, herb and fruit finish. 13% alcohol.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Try this wine with gamier meats such as pheasant or venison, or lamb. Towards the warmer months, for a lighter dish, try hoisin duck pancakes or duck salads. And for vegetarian dishes, try mushroom and lentil pate, mushroom pie, or courgettes stuffed with bulgur wheat. Enjoy now or keep until 2028.

ABOUT: Founded in the mid-1990s by Mem and Robert Kirby, Yabby Lake is located in the north of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Today the vineyards are overseen by Viticulturist, Thomas Schulz who meticulously manages the vineyards, with hand pruning and handpicking taking place each season. Hugely respected Chief Winemaker and General Manager Tom Carson makes the Red Claw range from Yabby Lake’s own vineyards; the grapes are hand-harvested and hand-crafted in the cellar, making delicious fine wines.
