Description
The small, prized appellation of Bandol in Provence makes unique wines, mostly from the Mourvedre grape. They look Provencal but are often more complex and ageworthy, with surprising length and depth given the pale, pretty pink colour.
TASTING NOTE: This Rose is a pale, salmon-pink colour in the glass, with flecks of gold. On the nose: it’s elegant, aromatic and complex, with citrus fruits (lemon and pink grapefruit), red berries (strawberries and raspberries), plus a floral aroma of white flowers and mixed herbs, eg thyme and verbena. On the palate: it is lively and well-structured from fresh acidity, and plenty of citrus, herb and berry flavours. A dry, mouthwatering Rose, fine in texture, and medium in body. The finish is complex and long-lasting showing its capacity to age for 3-4 years.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING & SERVICE: A delicate, refreshing, but complex style of Provencal Rose that would be perfect to enjoy as an aperitif on its own while relaxing by the pool or on a patio! It would work very well with a variety of fresher dishes, especially seafood or vegetable dishes, or a lighter Provencal stew. Try pairing it alongside a Tuna Crudo with warm red chillis and citrus marinade. Or, for a vegetarian match, with a summer vegetable and ricotta puff pastry tartlet served with a light, lemon-vinaigrette-dressed garden salad. Serve this wine chilled between 8-10C. Despite its pale colour and finesse, it ages well for up to three years with ease.
ABOUT: Founded in 1896 by Marcel Ott who travelled around France on finishing engineering school in Alsace. He stumbled upon land by the Mediterranean, inspiring him to grow vines and make the greatest Provencal wines; so the Ott legacy began. Chateau Romassan was the third estate to be bought by the family in 1956; they restored the estate and developed a great reputation for quality. So much so that it was bought by Louis Roederer in 2004, who knew a good opportunity when the vineyards came up for sale!
