Description
This wickedly smooth fine red is from the Frappato grape, grown in the Vittoria area in the south-east of Sicily. It was made by a well-known producer called Cos who are arguably the best producer of this grape, and a leading proponent of the natural wine movement, i.e. using as few interventions in the vineyard and cellar as possible, and no new oak barrels for the ageing process. It’s truly a wonderful wine, full of red berry fruits, a touch of earthiness, with a very long, mouthwatering finish. It’s a great option for lovers of Burgundy and good Pinot noir, as it is satisfyingly smooth from relatively low tannins, and it’s full of delicious strawberry, raspberry, cherry and herb flavour. It’s a superb red for summer too as, despite huge flavour concentration, it’s not too heavy (you can even chill the wine for a couple of degrees). Decant the wine for a couple of hours before serving. It’s great now but will keep for 2-3 years should you wish to store it. 12.5% alcohol. One of Sicily’s vinous treasures!
