Description
Dr Loosen have been producing wines in the Mosel region of Germany for over 200 years. Ernst ‘Ernie’ Loosen inherited the estate in 1988 and they now make beautiful wines, mostly from Riesling, which reflect the unique area in which they’re made – the incredibly steep, slate slopes which line the Mosel River are some of the most dramatic backdrops for winemaking in the world! This is a delicious, nectar-like sweet wine, which will please any dessert-wine lover. It is smartly packaged in a gift tube too, perfect for Christmas!
TASTING NOTE: An attractive yellow gold in colour. On the nose, an intense aroma of tropical fruits, honey and orange zest. On the palate, it has lovely honeyed, citrus peel and marmalade characters, with well-integrated acidity and sugar. It has a balanced and fresh palate despite the succulent, sweet, fruit-driven finish. At 7.5% alcohol and absolutely delicious, it’s dangerously easy to drink!
PAIRING AND SERVING IDEAS: Dr Loosen recommends spicy Asian dishes, perhaps Cantonese-style steamed dumplings or lightly seasoned tempura. A strong, smelly cheese will also tickle the taste buds, try it with Stilton or Gorgonzola. To satisfy the sweet tooth a fresh fruit tart such as Tarte Tatin or Creme brulee works a treat. This wine should be served at 8-10 degrees C. Drink now until 2030.
ABOUT: Dr Loosen is a top-rated estate, just outside Bernkastel on the Mosel River, which had been in the hands of the same family for over 2 centuries when Ernie Loosen took the reins in 1988. It is now one of the best-known growers in the Mosel and a real ambassador for German wines. They have the benefit of an excellent grape-growing climate in the Mosel area, where mineral-rich slate soils line extremely steep slopes that are planted with very old vines; the result is delicious, world-class wines. All of their vines have an average age of over 100 years old, and therefore are free from the phylloxera aphid pest which attacks only grapevines and kills vines, drastically shrinking many growers production. They release many styles of Rieslings, from dry and fruit forward wines to richer, lusciously sweet ones.
