Description
A delicious fortified red wine from the Roussillon in Southern France. This is made from the Grenache grape and is built around lovely cherry aroma and flavour matched with a full, rich, sweet finish. It’s a great, lighter abv alternative to port (it is 16.5% as opposed to Port’s 19 or 20%) and a very good food match with chocolate cake, cheddar cheese or similar without food as a great sipping wine after dinner.
The Roussillon area is well known for its dry, Mediterranean climate with plenty of sunshine which results in a long growing season capable of producing fully ripe grapes full of flavour, body and most importantly in this case, sugar. Traditionally known for producing fortified wines, recently wineries have also started successfully producing dry white and red wines. Mas Amiel, originally known as Domaine de Goudous, began winemaking in 1816 and has since become synonymous for their high quality fortified wines. Founded by Raymond Ettiene Amiel, the estate has been passed down through the generations and is now managed by Olivier Decelle. 16.5% ABV.
