A superior Pinot Grigio made by Alois Lageder and family from the Dolomite Mountains in North Eastern Italy, hence the name ‘Terra Alpina’ or ‘Alpine land’. A charming and refreshing drink, elegant and aromatic with aromas of tangerine, peach, honeysuckle and lemon, this is incredibly moreish and the perfect antidote to bland, light Pinot Grigios that are mass produced from elsewhere in Northeast Italy.
The Dolomite mountains are in Northeast Italy, in the Sudtirol region (once part of Austria, so languages here are German and Italian). The wine region here is most commonly known as Alto Adige (Alto means ‘high’ and Adige is the name of the river nearby). At alpine altitudes, cool night-time temperatures mean the grapevines rest, and the grapes retain refreshing acidity. Farming in the area since 1823, it’s hard to measure the impact that the Lageder family have had on this area of Italy. Now with 50 hectares of vineyards, they are known for high quality, and farm biodynamically (similar to organic farming but a holistic method using the lunar calendar to time their farming decisions). This is versatile, fruity and easy to drink, with more depth of flavour than many Italian Pinot Grigios. This made for a great companion to chicken dishes, pastas with white sauces, plus most salads. 12% ABV.
