Description
This juicy, complex red is a great example of the Malbec grape grown in the Andes, in Mendoza, Argentina. It’s a lovely, food-friendly wine, and is one of our favourites from the region.
TASTING NOTE: A pretty, deep purple/red colour. Fresh cherry, plum and blackcurrant with notes of mixed herbs and spice (vanilla, a hint of clove and nutmeg). On the palate: medium to full in body, smooth and elegant. Berry, herb and spice flavours with no obvious oak notes. It has fresh acidity and fairly firm tannins with balanced 14% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVING: It pairs with many foods. Try with steak and peppercorn sauce, Bbq food or hearty vegetable dishes like lentils, cauliflower or roast root vegetables. Drink now or keep until Summer 2026.
ABOUT: Finca Sophenia makes highly acclaimed, high-altitude wines at around 1200 metres in the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza, specifically in the Gualtallary (gwal-taj-ah-ree) part of the Uco Valley, where the nighttime temperatures are cool and the wines are fresh. This is not a heavy nor obviously oaked wine, but spent 4 months in oak barrels to soften and mellow. It’s delicious!
