Antinori Tignanello 2018 HALF (37.5cl)

Red, Tuscany, Italy

In stock

The Antinori family have been making wine for over six centuries involving a mind-blowing 26 generations! This is an iconic Italian wine that broke the traditional Italian wine mould with innovative winemaking methods such as being the first to use non-native grape varieties (eg Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc) in its blend. From a prized site in the heart of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, this is a masterful blend of 80% Sangiovese, nearly 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder is Cabernet Franc.  A stunning palate with silky tannins and rich mouthfeel; this wine is sheer class in a glass!

Tignanello 2018 is a deeply intense ruby red colour & on the nose is incredibly complex with notes of ripe red berry fruit, black cherries along with sweet hints of vanilla, mint and white pepper .  On the palate it is rich and well-balanced with supple velvety tannins but all the while has a lovely freshness leading to a wine with great length, elegance & an abundance of flavours. 14.5% ABV.

About the 2018 vintage: The 2018 growing season in Chianti Classico began with normal winter weather both in terms of temperatures and rainfall. Despite these climatic conditions, the vines began bud-break a week earlier than seasonal averages in this area. Spring was characterized by frequent rain showers and lower than average temperatures, especially during May, while June and July were hot and dry as usual. Scattered rainfall in the month of August and a dry, breezy spell in September and October allowed the grapes to grow to perfect ripeness guaranteeing excellent sugar levels and polyphenolic maturity. Harvest began around September 20th with Sangiovese and were completed on October 12th with Cabernet.
