Description

This is the 2022 vintage of Tignanello, an iconic Tuscan wine that broke the traditional Italian wine mould with its innovative winemaking methods. From a prized vineyard site in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, it’s a masterful blend of 78% Sangiovese, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc grapes.

TASTING NOTE: The start to 2022 was warm, with cooler temperatures and rainfall closer to harvest. This resulted in a fresh, poised style of wine, compared to the headier notes of 2021. The 2022 has a beautifully bright red colour with aromatic, beguiling notes of fruits such as cherries, blackberries and currants, as well as flowers (rose-petal and violet) and mixed spices, from extensive barrel ageing. It’s medium in body but generous in flavour and ripeness. A succulent, fine-textured, attractive Tignanello with a long, scented finish, and surprising alcohol of 14.5%, given the impeccable balance. Drink now or cellar till 2032 at least.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a powerful wine, which is a real treat on its own. It works well with food too, and we would suggest pairing this with richer tomato-based dishes such as a meaty lasagne, or with grilled mushrooms and Pecorino cheese. Enjoy now with a decanting or keep easily until 2032 in half bottle.

ABOUT: The Antinori family have been making wine for over six centuries involving a mind-blowing 26 generations! Tignanello estate was purchased by the Antinoris back in 1850, but it was in the 20th Century that the wine as we know it was first produced. Albiera Antinori is the President of Antinori with her two sisters both working in the business, as well as her father Marchese Piero Antinori. Renzo Cotarella is the head winemaker and CEO.
