Description
If you like Sancerre, we think you’ll like this! Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, this wine is fresh, crisp, fruity and thirst-quenching. The vineyards are located in central France, in the Loire Valley, near the Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume vineyards. The clay and limestone soils here contribute to a fine, very dry, well-balanced wine. It is not quite as fine as Sancerre (hence its humbler price tage), but is very good and great if you like a crisp dry wine, which is well-priced given its quality. Enjoy it throughout the course of a meal, or simply drink on its own.
TASTING NOTE: A pale yellow in colour. On the nose: this wine offers aromas of orchard fruits such as pear, apple and gooseberry, as well as hints of elderflower, green peppers and citrus. On the palate: it is fruitier than the nose, but overall it is light to medium-bodied rather than full, and the sensation is of freshness, crispness and a dry, elegant, mouthwatering finish, with plenty more citrus and crunchy green peppers. Moderate 12.5% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORAGE AND SERVICE: This wine is highly versatile, so can be served from the beginning of a meal with starters to the cheese course at the end. It pairs beautifully with shellfish, seafood, and white meats. Try it with a creamy and comforting fish pie, or a zesty lemon orzo chicken. For a plant-based alternative, a spinach, sweet potato and lentil dhal would work well. It also compliments refreshing desserts, such as blueberry cheesecake or a simple fruit salad. Chill this wine to around 8 to 9 °C to preserve its flavours. Drink now or cellar till mid 2027.
ABOUT: Arnaud and Stephanie Dezat make a range of lovely white, rose and red Sancerre, this white Menetou-Salon as well as Pouilly-fume under their ‘Domaine Thibault’ label that you can see on our website. You may know that their father Andre Dezat made popular wines that were widely shipped from France to the UK; eventually the estate passed to his children, and then grandchildren who split the estate into two, of which Arnaud and Stephanie Dezat own one.
