Blank Bottle Winery The Empire Strikes Back 2022 HALF Bottle (37.5cl)

White, Stellenbosch, South Africa

In stock

For a refreshing change, this small batch and unique wine is produced from a blend of 38% Verdelho, 33% Chenin Blanc, 13% Marsanne, 11% Roussanne, and 5% Viognier grapes all grown in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, by Pieter Walser of Blank Bottle winery, whose wines each tells a story in their names and their bottles.

TASTING NOTE: A delicate golden colour with flecks of green. On the nose: it’s both fresh and complex with a mix of fruit and floral characters. There are apple blossom notes, plus pineapple, ripe apples and pears, with a hint of buttered toast on the end. On the palate: it’s medium to full in body, with juicy acidity and underlying richness of flavour of almonds, apples, pineapples, and lychee fruit. It’s quite firm in structure with refreshing acidity, and perfectly balanced by the considerable fruit flavour and smooth finish. 13% alcohol by volume.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This white wine is a great match with many seafoods. For example, try it with grilled prawns or clams in a white wine garlic and herb butter sauce. Alternatively, try it with grilled halloumi and spinach salad with a fresh citrus vinaigrette. Enjoy now, and can be decanted, or kept until 2027/2028.

ABOUT: Blank Bottle Winery is the brainchild of Pieter Walser. Pieter does not own any vineyards and buys grapes from various vineyards across the Western Cape. This allows him the ability to develop new wines each year, experimenting with grape blends, often with surprising (but always delicious!) results that challenge the conventions of ‘normal’ wines. Some wines are one-offs when he finds a good parcel of grapes, and sometimes where supply allows, he repeats wines that are particularly successful the following year.
