Description
This is a delicious, sweet wine produced by Chateau Rieussec and made from a blend of 84% Semillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% Muscadelle. This wine would make a great option either with or instead of fruit-based desserts or could even match a pate or terrine as a richer way to kick off a meal.
TASTING NOTE: A rich golden colour in the glass. On the nose: With Semillon leading the blend you’ll find lots of apricot with candied lemon and a touch of honey. On the palate: It’s full-bodied and smooth, with an almost creamy texture that’s followed by the vibrant acidity from the Sauvignon Blanc, plus the Noble Rot characteristics of more honey, with lovely sweetness on the finish. 14% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: A perfect match for blue cheese, rhubarb dishes, berries and vanilla ice cream. Specific food matches are a fresh fruit tarte, and it goes marvellously with apple or rhubarb crumbles. For a savoury choice, duck pate or blue cheese such as Stilton or Roquefort. Yum! Drink now or hold for another 5 years.
ABOUT: This wine is known as a ‘second wine’ of Chateau Rieussec, the famous First Growth Grand Cru of Sauternes. Carmes de Rieussec’s name is a reference to the Carmelite monks in Langon, who owned the Rieussec estate in the 18th century. Now owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild who also owns Chateau Lafite, they know a thing or two about great wine from the Bordeaux area, both red, white, and sweet!
