TASTING NOTE: Attractive bright yellow colour in the glass. On the nose: there is a lovely mix of ripe red and yellow apples on the nose, with a touch of citrus, both lemon and riper tangerine notes. As with many Champagnes aged for three years, there is a note of pastry here like a fruit tart or tarte tatin. It’s extremely appealing! On the palate: It’s medium in body with lots of lovely fruity, juicy flavour and fresh but not high acidity. It’s rounded and long on the finish, and dry but not austere or bitter in any way. Elegant, flavourful Champagne that’s hard not to love!
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a versatile Champagne made from all three grape varieties, that is not too acidic and extremely well-balanced. It’s a popular style and would work well at a party or dinner as will be enjoyed by all! But, for specific food matches, it’s great with appetizers and starters, fish eg salmon in particular, as well as chicken or spinach pies if you’d like an alternative to a still white. It’s also fruity enough to match a fruit dessert such a strawberries and cream or apple tart. Delicious now, serve at 7-10 degrees, or keep till the end of 2028.
ABOUT: Champagne Bernard Robert is a Champagne house in the village of Voigny, in the Cote des Bar sub-region, in the south of Champagne. It was founded in 1945 by Bernard Robert (an ex-hairdresser!) and wife Marie-Madeleine Dosne, a winegrower. Today, it is run by the third generation, Sebastien. The family own 30 hectares of vineyards in and around Voigny. They make delicious wines which are lovely and fruity, and not expensive compared to many Champagnes, despite being aged for at 3 years in the cellar. Their Blanc de Blancs is equally as delicious if you spot it on a menu!
