Description
This is an impressive red from Chateau Gazin in Pomerol, on the right bank of Bordeaux’s Gironde estuary. Typical of wines made in Pomerol, Merlot is the key grape in the blend with 93% and is supported by 7% Cabernet Franc, and it makes for a spectacular wine.
TASTING NOTE: A beautiful ruby colour On the nose: attractive Merlot aromas of dark berry fruits and liquorice are followed by blackberries, tobacco, eucalyptus, and some spice from 18 months ageing in French oak barrels. On the palate: Full-bodied with silky tannins and notes of stewed red fruits, leather, and warm spices and an earthy note that’s followed by a long-lasting umami finish. 14.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: With a powerful and full Bordeaux such as this we would suggest matching it with a roasted saddle of lamb marinated in harissa spices, or with spiced lentil stuffed peppers. Enjoy now with a decanting or keep for another 5 years.
ABOUT: Founded by Louis Soualle, the great-grandfather of the current 5th generation owners. Louis acquired Chateau Gazin at the beginning of the 20th century. Today his descendants manage and provide the same care and attention to detail in all aspects of the Chateau. Chateau Gazin’s vineyard covers an area of 26 hectares, in a single holding, in the upper Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. The vineyards here are looked after by using traditional growing methods and environmentally friendly practices such as ploughing, organic fertilizers, and manual harvests.
