Chateau Lalande-Borie Saint-Julien 2016 HALF (37.5cl)

Red, Bordeaux, France

In stock

This is from the highly regarded 2016 vintage, which was warm and dry, giving rich, fruity wines. A classic left bank Bordeaux wine, though with a relatively high level of Merlot (55%) in the blend which drives the fruit forward and smooth mouthfeel alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and has then been aged in new French oak. Initially a little reserved on the nose with herbaceous notes, it then opens to give lovely cassis and damson flavour set against firm but well refined tannin and transforms into a luxurious and opulent example from this acclaimed area – certainly approachable in it’s youth, decanting is optional!

This wine takes its name from the owner, Jean Eugene Borie. The estate consists of one plot of 25 hectares found to the west of the Saint Julien appellation. Bruno Borie, well known for owning Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou along with other properties in Saint-Julien and Haut-Médoc, currently owns and runs the estate with his sister Sabine Coiffe. While this would certainly pair well with many classic French dishes, we enjoyed savouring this over a relaxed evening with nibbles and cheese. 13.5% ABV.
