Description
This is a lovely, classic Bordeaux red made by Bruno Borie and the team close by at Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou. It’s a blend of Merlot (66%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (34%).
TASTING NOTES: with black fruit aromas of cherry, cassis and blackberry on the nose, as well as a hint of spice and cedar. It is not a hefty or powerful wine but has lots of flavour, is medium to full in body and has typically good structure of great Bordeaux. It both tastes and looks good, and provides a good alternative to Ducru-Beaucaillou (at a much more humble price point)!
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: While this would certainly pair well with many classic French dishes, we enjoyed savouring this over a relaxed evening with nibbles and cheese.
ABOUT: This wine takes its name from the owner, Jean Eugene Borie. The estate consists of one plot of 25 hectares found to the west of the Saint Julien appellation. Bruno Borie, well known for owning Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou along with other properties in Saint-Julien and Haut-Médoc, currently owns and runs the estate with his sister Sabine Coiffe.
