Description
This is a white wine made by a producer we first bought from in 2007, the Mauroy family. It’s from the Pouilly Fume area situated in the Loire Region on the coast of Western France. Made from Sauvignon Blanc though quite different to the ever-popular examples found in New Zealand which are typically more pungent with a focus on tropical fruit notes.
TASTING NOTE: delicate lemon colour in the glass. On the nose: This is a distinctly clean and crisp example of Sauvignon Blanc with notes of intense lemon, pear, subtle white flowers, and the tell-tale flinty/wet stone aroma which is synonymous with wine from the Loire area. On the palate: ‘Fume’ means smoky, and it is this character which gained the wine its name, albeit matched with plenty of apple, citrus and herbaceous flavours. It’s a medium-bodied, elegant wine with fresh acidity and a dry, long finish. 13% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine is sensational alongside goat’s cheese, so goat’s cheese salads, crostini, tart, or frittata are all good matches. It’s a fresh elegant Sauvignon Blanc that can be enjoyed with many lighter dishes or alongside your favourite fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce, due to its crisp and clean style! Enjoy now till Summer 2024.
ABOUT: Brother and sister Cedric and Katia Mauroy-Gauliez are the 13th generation of wine growers here in the Pouilly Fume appellation of the Loire Valley (the family began farming in 1635). Historically, they sold many of their grapes in bulk to a merchant but increasingly since their father Gerard made improvements in the vineyard (that Katia and Cedric continued), the family have bottled more and more wine under their name. They make fantastic Pouilly Fume that is a match for great Sancerre, winning multiple awards too!
