Description
Domaine Sève Mâcon Solutré-Pouilly 2024 is a fresh, peachy and elegantly textured white Burgundy from a fifth-generation family estate in the Mâconnais, offering juicy stone fruit, citrus lift and gentle herbiness with the balance and class to shine both as an aperitif and at the table.
TASTING NOTE: Light yellow in colour with flecks of green. On the nose: this is lovely and fresh and aromatic on the nose, with lots of peaches and other stone fruits, and some citrus, that often are found in Macon white wines. On the palate: it’s smooth, round, juicy and peachy, with mouth-watering acidity that is balanced well by the medium body and intense fruit flavours, plus a gentle herbiness. It’s fine in texture, dry, easy to like, and great for a midweek drink, but also has enough class to accompany a good meal.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Domaine Seve suggest that their Macon Solutre-Pouilly is perfect as an aperitif with gougères (delicious cheese puffs), or with cheeses such as with Gouda, Comté, Mimolette or goats cheeses, as well as a quiche Lorraine. It’s a fairly versatile wine and we’d also recommend pairing it with a lighter tapas or antipasti board, or for a main, pastas and white/creamy sauces, and chicken with creamy sauces (or mushrooms for a veggie option) as well as garlic chicken and chicken kiev. It’s fruity and delicious, best served at around 7-9 degrees; drink now till spring 2027.
ABOUT: Domaine Sève is a small family business in the Maconnais area, in the south of Burgundy. They are based in Solutre-Pouilly, a small village close to the distinctive, limestone rock of Solutre that looks out over all the vineyards in the vicinity. Sylvie and Jean Pierre Seve are the current (the fifth) generation, who have nearly 8 hectares (20 acres) of vines in the Maconnais. With the help of their children, Antoine and Mathilde, they make this lovely Macon as well as a very good Pouilly-Fuisse, the key appellation in the same area.
