Supremely refreshing Sauvignon Blanc from the famed vineyards of Pouilly Fume, in the eastern part of the Loire Valley wine region. This is crisp, dry and mouthwateringly juicy, a great wine to perk up the palate, and a good food match too. It has the benchmark, crystalline purity of good Loire white wines, and a lingering, apple, grapefruit and herb finish. Yum!
TASTING NOTE: Pale yellow in colour with hints of green. The nose is expressive and aromatic, with herby notes of nettle and elderflower as well as riper grapefruit, gooseberry, yellow plum and herb. It’s very characterful with medium body and a juicy, mouthwatering palate, from naturally fresh acidity of the Loire Valley and the Sauvignon grape, along with the very pure, clean-cut flavours. Moderate 12.5% alcohol and a vibrant, refreshing style.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: An obvious choice for Loire Sauvignon Blanc is to match it with goat’s cheese tart or salad, as the locals do, revering the nearby Crottin de Chavignol goat’s cheese. But, the Dezat family suggest trying this lovely wine with grilled prawn skewers, monkfish curry with coconut, or for dessert a pannacotta and passion fruit, all of which sound suitably appetising! It’s ready to drink now or keep till 2027. Chill down to around 7 degrees if you like a particularly refreshing style.
ABOUT: Domaine Thibault is owned by Arnaud and Stephanie Dezat, who are better known for their Sancerre. You may know that their father Andre Dezat made a popular white Sancerre that was widely shipped to the UK; eventually the estate passed to his children, and then grandchildren who split the estate into two of which Arnaud and Stephanie Dezat own one. They make benchmark Loire whites from Sauvignon Blanc, as well as some Rose and Red.
