Description

From the revered Burgundian family owned Drouhin estate, this Pinot Noir is from the Dundee Hills in Oregon state in the Northwest of the US. The producer isn’t the only thing this wine shares with its French counterparts in Burgundy, this area has a cooler climate than the surrounding states – think California – and also is able to produce Pinot Noir with incredible complexity and depth.

TASTING NOTE: This example from the Drouhin estate showcases these qualities, along with a sublime balance of fine tannin, vibrant fruit and acidity. There are notes of rose petal, raspberry, dark and sour cherries and black tea which is supported by a backbone of intensity in both flavour and structure.

FOOD PAIRING, SERVICE AND STORAGE: We enjoyed this with smoked pulled pork or for a lighter alternative; mushroom risotto. This wine is delicious now but will only get better over the next few years.

ABOUT: Joseph Drouhin, a Chablis native, arrived in Beaune at the heart of Burgundy in 1880 and founded the winery and negotiant business which is now in the hands of his four great grandchildren – Philippe, Veronique, Laurent and Frederic. Veronique and her family purchased land in the Oregon area of the USA in the 1980s and have been using their significant knowledge and experience in order to produce acclaimed wines here as well as back home in France.
