Description
An absolute treat, and something far from the usual! This is a long-aged white port, a rarity compared to the commercial white ports that are usually mixed with tonic. This is from Ferreira, the oldest Port house in existence, and is delicious, complex and long-aged (in a similar way to a long-aged tawny port). It’s a great gift but you may want to keep it for yourself, and sip over a cool winter’s evening, or match with a dessert for even more decadence!
TASTING NOTE: This white port is yellow amber in colour with golden tints. On the nose: intense and complex aromas of dried citrus peel, baking spices and caramel. On the palate: there is hints of nuts and long aged wood. The palate packs a punch whilst also delivering a long, rich finish. The acidity is nicely balanced with some sweetness that helps carry the evolved and intense flavours for a lingering finish. 20% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING AND SERVICE: An aged white port is great digestif or paired with a cheese board, and rich desserts such as a fruit cake or creme brulee. Serve between 12 – 16°C. Once opened it does not require decanting and will maintain freshness for up to 8 weeks. This aged white port is delicious now or can keep for a further 5 years.
ABOUT: Ferreira was founded in 1751 and is the oldest Portuguese Port house. As the only Port house to have remained in Portuguese hands throughout its 270 years, it has considerable skill in making aged Ports. It was under the leadership of Dona Antonia that the company became the force that it is today. Now it is owned by Sogrape, a large Portuguese family business that traditionally works in the production and commercialisation of quality wines (and they are also the makers of the globally famous Mateus Rose!).
