This Sankt Laurent (one of Austria’s respected red grape varieties) from Weingut Fischer is a peppery, elegant red from a native grape variety, for something unique, delicious and different from Austria! A great food match too.
TASTING NOTE: deep ruby colour in the glass with expressive aromas of bramble berries, ripe summer cherries and strawberries, with lingering black pepper spice and leather notes. The palate is juicy with mouth-watering acidity and plenty of ripe red fruits, followed by a balanced medium body and well-integrated tannins, which carries into a plush finish.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Sankt Laurent wines are considered excellent with food, regional dishes such as Weiner Schnitzel, glazed pork belly, and even Peking duck, all match wonderfully, or try with a hearty ratatouille or roasted butternut squash risotto. ABOUT: Weingut Fischer has been producing wines since 1662 from the family home in Sooß, one of the oldest villages in Austria. After taking over for his father in the early 1980s, upon completing his vintner’s education, Christian Fischer now manages and crafts some of the most highly regarded red wines in Austria. The wines come from the Thermenregion, an area just south of Vienna, which as of recently has been credited for its red wines being produced here due to gravel soils, warm summers, and dry autumns.
