Greywacke Marlborough Wild Sauvignon Blanc 2021 HALF Bottle (37.5cl)

White, Marlborough, New Zealand

In stock

A complex, delicious Sauvignon Blanc from Greywacke that is unlike the standard for New Zealand. It has added herb and smokey complexity alongside the trademark fruitiness. An elegant, fine wine that deserves its place on many a starred restaurant table.

TASTING NOTE: An attractive yellow colour with flecks of green. On the nose: It’s slightly unusual for many Sauvignon Blancs from this area in that it has both the mix of fruity and herbaceous characters and a more complex, savoury style too, notably with a hint of woodsmoke and fresh dough (from the natural yeasts and barrel ageing). On the palate: Has medium body with crisp acidity balanced brilliantly by flavours of lemon, passionfruit, a hint of thyme and fennel, and the woodsmoke followed by a juicy, rounded moreish finish.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Classic pairings that will match this wine perfectly include fresh seared scallops and fresh raw oysters. We would also suggest matching it with cold smoked salmon, a dollop of sour cream and dill, as there is a slight smokiness to the wine that complements similar foods. It is great now but has good structure and plenty of flavour to ensure it will age for another 3-5 years.

ABOUT: Greywacke is the name of this now-famous wine producer, and also of their vineyard at Rapaura, Marlborough, New Zealand. The owner is Kevin Judd, previously known for his famous Cloudy Bay wines before he sold Cloudy Bay to found Greywacke in 2009. Kevin purchases grapes from other growers too, around the Southern Valleys of Marlborough and the central Wairau Plains, particularly in Woodbourne, Renwick and other Rapaura vineyards.
