Who makes this and where is it made?

The Prüms have lived in the Wehlen area of the Mitel (middle) Mosel, South West Germany since the 12th century. Winemaking reins have been handed down through the generations with Manfred (grandson of Johann Josef Prum after whom the estate is named) now running the business with his Grandaughter Katharina. Graacher Himmelreich is one of the top vineyard plots in the Mosel Valley situated on steep, slatey soils nestled high above the river.

Tasting notes

Drink dates

This wine is delicious drinking now but as with the best Mosel Rieslings , it will easily keep for another five years or so in a half bottle.

Ideas for drinking/ food matching

This wine would be very comfortable paired with a Thai or Indian curry or with a lineup of cheeses, especially strong examples.

Technical Details

This wine is made from 100% Riesling grapes. Manfred Prüm, the owner and winemaker believes in low-intervention in the vineyard and the cellar and they chose to begin harvest generally when the others are finishing. Fermentations occur in steel vats with natural yeasts, at very low temperatures until January following the vintage. No oak barrels are used to mature the wines.
