This stunning and revered Auslese is made by the the legends at JJ Prüm in the Mittel Mosel wine area of Germany. This is a sweet wine packed full of ripe and opulent honeyed fruit flavours but still holding the piercing acidity that the best in the Mosel are renowned for; it therefore tastes fresh and off-dry or medium-dry, rather than fully sweet. Grapes were left on the vines until late in November, early December and were meticulously hand selected by the quality obsessed team. Wehlen refers to the village where this vineyard is located in the Mittel Mosel, and Sonnenhuhr is the actual vineyard, named after a sundial found there! It is an excellent vineyard benefitting from South/South West exposure to the sun and distinctive grey slate (otherwise known as Devon slate) soils
The Prüms have lived in the Wehlen area of the Mitel (middle) Mosel, South West Germany since the 12th century. Winemaking reins have been handed down through the generations with Manfred (grandson of Johann Josef Prum after whom the estate is named) now running the business with his Grandaughter Katharina. The Estate prides itself on its meticulous winemaking and is shrouded by secrecy as few people have been allowed to visit part of the cellars! Drink this as an aperitif or partner with pork belly, fish and chips or vegetable stirfy. 8% ABV.
