Description
Sublime, off-dry riesling from mosel stars, the prum family. it’s very fruity but is so fresh that it makes a great aperitif or match for starters/mains rather than dessert. Yum!
TASTING NOTE: Light yellow colour, and on the nose there are lots of fruity aromas eg the classic apple and lime, as well as riper peach, passionfruit and even a touch of melon/mango. On the palate: it’s intensely fruity, with more apple, peach and passionfruit character, and there is a little mineral note too, a slatey, thirst-quenching quality, typical of the Mosel Valley. It’s medium in body, low in alcohol at 8% with high acidity, but with the fruity nature of the wine, you may not notice the high acidity. It’s off-dry, with a delicious sweetness at the end.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Great Kabinett-level Riesling is a wonderful aperitif, chilled to c. 6-8 degrees; its appley character and round finish make the mouth water and the acidity wakes up your taste buds before a meal! But, there are plenty of tradition Mosel matches such as onion tart, ‘debbekoche’ (an oven-baked dish of bacon, potatoes and eggs) and even soup made with herbs and Riesling! For us, Riesling goes brilliantly with pork as its acidity cuts through the fat of pork belly. It’s great with Asian foods such as pad thai or fruity curries. Or try with parma ham and melon, or Summer salads with melon. Drink now or keep till 2029 or 2030 and watch it develop further honeyed notes
ABOUT: JJ Prüm is one of the most revered wine estates in the Mosel Valley. The Prüms have lived in the Wehlen area of the Mittel (middle) Mosel, southwest Germany since the 12th century! Winemaking has been handed down through the generations with Manfred (grandson of Johann Josef Prum after whom the estate is named) running the business but gradually handing over to his daughter Katharina. Their winemaking is meticulous, making crystalline-pure Riesling from steeply sloping vineyards right above the Mosel river
