Description
This is a characterful and bold red Bordeaux wine from Pessac-Leognan. A delicious example of a high quality Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, It boasts plenty of ripe black and red fruits, with some dried flowers, spice and vanilla. It is matured in a minimum of 50% new oak barrels made by their onsite cooper Jean-Luc (a rarity nowadays), which contributes to the complex floral and spicy characteristics.
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte was purchased by the former Olympic ski champion Daniel Cathiard in 1990 and he has since modernised the estate to become one of the leading producers in the region. The vineyards here are built upon deposits of river stones and semi-precious pebbles from the River Garonne, and this area is reputed to have the best soils of the region. It pairs well with classic meat dishes and will certainly keep for the next few years.
