Description
This is a juicy, full, smooth-textured red wine from Portuguese grape varieties, grown in the Douro area of northern Portugal. Much wine made here is fermented and then fortified, to produce Port, which is 19 or 20% alcohol. Some producers make a dry (non-fortified) red wine such as this Crasto, by renowned estate Quinta do Crasto. It is a great wine to sip without food or pair with grilled meats or hearty casseroles.
A blend of local grapes Tinta Roriz (also grown nearby in Spain, aka Tempranillo in Rioja), Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca. The Douro is a hot, dry area; the wines can have high alcohol. This is superbly balanced, smooth, and full-bodied with dark red colour, cassis, wild strawberry and delicious floral aromas. 14.5% ABV.
